Abstract
To find antitumor components in Korean basidiomycetes, the carpophores of Coriolus sp. No. 84 which were collected in Chung-cheongnam-do in September, 1981, were used in this study. Eighty grams of the dried carpophores were extracted with distilled water on a boiling water bath for eight hours. This water extract was concentrated under reduced pressure, anal mixed with three-fold volume of ethanol and allowed to stand overnight. The precipitates were centrifugated, redissolved in distilled water and lyophilized to yield 2.7g of brownish powders.
Antitumor activity of this powder against sarcoma 180 implanted in ICR mice was examined in vivo. This fraction showed 27% of tumor inhibition ratio at the dose of 20§·/§¸/day. The chemical analysis of the fraction showed that it contained a polysaccharide and a protein. The hydrolysates of the polysaccharide moiety contained fucose(0.6%), xylose (0.6%), mannose (12.7%), galactose (8.7%), glucose (75.6%) and one unknown monosaccharide (2.8%).
